Five games, 1 universe..

So far there have been a total of 5 Drakojan Skies games made, some complete, some unfinished. In the beginning of 2003, I’ve decided to merge my two favorite things together: jets and dragons. First I drew and photoshopped a few posters and concept images which would be brought to life 4 years later.

I spent many years learning how to program and make games. When I thought I had what it takes to make an Arcade-like, SNES era, simple side scrolling shooter, I went to work on DS.

First there came the three part “Mission” series which were each meant to be 1 single level of a larger game. Originally I had 8 Missions planned due to my limited skills in programming, but later on, once I’ve figured out new ways to do things, I accepted the challenge of tossing all stages into 1 game. This meant each stage had to be remade from scratch, all the programming, graphics had to be reworked to fit a new engine, which later became “Drakojan Skies: Acolytes”, released in 2006.

DS:Aco was the original idea I had for the game, featuring up to 10 stages, but unfortunately had to chop it down to 3, due to a publishing bug in Macromedia Flash.

Many months passed and I tried many, many ways to fix it, then ultimately decided that I had to redo everything again, with a new engine, in order to make it all work.
This new way of game-making allowed me to have virtually as many stages, levels and content I could imagine, but had to limit myself due to school-work and other life-issues.

After 2 years of work, the final version of Drakojan Skies Acolytes was released in 2007.
This game featured 7 unique and original stages, each with their own stage weapon, level-themed boss, new enemies and things to accomplish.

“Acolytes” marked the absolute final DS game ever to be made. I was not only tired and exhausted of working all these years on so many games, but also had a huge urge to start something new, other than just making games all the time.

Looking back, I can say that Mission 1, 3 and the final version of Acolytes were some of my favorite and most fun time making games with Flash. I no longer wish to continue the series or make anything else in flash anymore.

From now on it’ll be comics and graphics.
